### Summary
This position is located within the Logistic Management Service (LMS), Transportation Support Section (TSS), at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System (SLVHCS), Houma, LA. Duties can include but are not limited to the following:
**Work Schedule:** Monday - Thursday 6:00am-4:30pm (Occasional Evenings, Weekends and Holidays)
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Requires to be annually certified in Basic First Aid-Red Cross Certification of First Aid; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); and protective precautions with communicably transmitted diseases.

### Responsibilities
* Operates platforms, vans, stakes, and dump trucks, fuel trucks, and trash removal trucks which have a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds up to 32,000 pounds.
* Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections and washing fluids.
* Operates wheeled vehicles, wheel-mounted tractors; or engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction.
* Operates passenger buses or passenger ambulance buses regardless of gross vehicle weight.
* Drives vehicles in restricted traffic environments on government installations, over public roads and highways, or under cross-country conditions.
* Reads and interprets road maps.

### Qualifications
**REQUIREMENTS FOR MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION: Candidates must acquire and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license of the appropriate classification or kind. Applicants also may be required to pass a practical road test and provide information on their driving record.
This position requires a valid state Commercial Drivers License (Class A, B, or C) with passenger endorsement, gross vehicle weight requirement of 26,001 or higher to include air-brakes. (SCREEN OUT)**
**PHYSICAL EFFORTS:**The Motor Vehicle Operator exerts light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and food controls. Moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to forty (40lbs) pounds. Considerable physical efforts may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs, such as installing and emergency fan belt or replacing and electrical fuse on open highways.
Patient transport vehicle driver must be able to assist patients into and out of the vehicle, which involves physical exertion, and frequent stooping, bending, and lifting of patients. Driver must also be able to load and assist wheelchair patients, often with no assistance.
**Working Conditions:** The Motor Vehicle Operator works mostly outside, is exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts and bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading, and unloading the vehicle.
Operates vehicle in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent), and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents.

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, **your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.**
